Sharon Laverne, began her earthly journey to the delight of her parents, James Coleman and Dorothy Thomas Coleman, on September 16, 1949, in Harlem, New York. Viewing Friday, January 22, 2021 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Foston Memorial Chapel.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and personal Savior at an early age, and was a faithful member of Sounds of Praise, Ministries, serving as an usher and Mother of the Church.
Sharon was educated in the public schools of Linden County, New Jersey, where she attended Abraham Clark High School and graduating with the Class of 1967. After high school she attended Berkeley Business School. Throughout her lifetime she enjoyed employment with the Library of Congress as a Senior Acquisition Librarian Assistant and retiring in 2014 after many years of dedicated service.
Sharon was a survivor and warrior, she fought the battle
with cancer and lung disease with a smile on her face. It was rare that she
would complain or show fear. She fought and never gave up, even until the end,
cancer did not win. She spent her time uplifting others and making sure they knew
The Lord and what He could do for them. She was strong, even when her body said
she was weak, she was a light, even in the darkest of situations. Because of
this, we will miss her.
On Wednesday, January 13, 2021, in God’s special way, at His perfect time, He picked from our midst this sweet soul and added her to His heavenly garden, where her spirit will bloom forever.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories her loving daughters: Candace Thomas (Apostle S.A., Sr.) Jenkins, Clarksville, TN, Kim Pinder, Baltimore, MD and LaQuita Coates, Washington, DC; son, Steven Peoples, Louisville, KY; five grandchildren; mother, Dorothy Coleman, Linden, NJ; sister, Freda Lockhart, Washington, DC; brothers: James Coleman, Charlotte, NC, Kerry (Jocelyn) Coleman, Linden, NJ and Vernon Thornton, Washington, DC; nieces: Tanisha, Latrisha and Tracey Coleman and a host of relatives and friends.
