Lula was born August 2, 1935 to Enoch Hopkins and Martha Butler Hopkins Oldham in Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee. Visitation Thursday, October 25, 2018 12:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. with the family present 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Foston Funeral Home. Funeral service 12:00 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2018 at Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist. Interment Walnut Grove Church Cemetery.  Her husband, Clay Smith, parents, sister, Sarah Burgess, brother, Franklin Dunbar and grandparents, Grant and Sarah Butler precede her in death. Her mother, Martha, later married Ozell Oldham, who was a loving father figure to Lula. Lula accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a dedicated, faithful member of Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church, serving on the Mothers Board and with the Pastor’s Aide. She received her education in the Montgomery County School System and was a graduate of the Historic Burt High School. Lula was united in holy matrimony with Clay Smith and they were the proud parents of three children. She was affectionally known to many as “Mother”, but she preferred to be called “Lola”. She was an animal lover and enjoyed feeding her birds, dog and cats. She spent her free time drawing and painting beautiful pictures of her surroundings. and spending time with her grandchildren. On Monday, October 22, 2018, Lola answered the Master’s call to receive her heavenly crown. She leaves to cherish precious memories her son, Gary Smith, Clarksville, TN; daughters: Quincetta Quinn, Anchorage, AK and Jackie Ogina, Charlotte, NC; brother, Pernell Hopkins, Fort Wayne, IN; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
