John W. Stewart, 70, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021 in Nashville, TN. The Stewart family will receive friends from Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. with Memorial Service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, 3640 Cane Run Rd, Louisville, Kentucky. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Memorial Service begins at 10:00 a.m. Second memorial service and committal will be on Monday, Nov. 22, 2021, 1 p.m. at Benevolent Lodge Order #210, 3014 Old Clarksville-Springfield Rd., Adams, TN. John was born October 27, 1951 in Louisville, Kentucky to James Ellis and Clara Collins Stewart. His parents precede him in death. He was a member and deacon at Nevels Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Clarksville, TN and a former member and deacon at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church prior to relocating to Tennessee. John was a proud graduate of Louisville Male High School, Class of 1969 where he lettered in baseball and was a drum major in the marching band. He was a 1973 graduate of Western Kentucky University and 1976 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Law. He was the second African American to serve as an Assistant Attorney General for the state of Kentucky and served as First Assistant Commonwealth Attorney for Jefferson County from 1988-1993. He was informally known as the “I-65 lawyer.” He was an active, life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and received his white coat for fifty years of membership in the fraternity on October 30, 2021. He is survived by his wife, Deborah K. Stewart, Adams, TN; children Brandi M. Stewart, Esq., Cincinnati, OH; Justin M. (Samira) Stewart, Charlotte, NC and Elder Bryant A. Stewart, Knoxville, TN; Dr. Michelle Todd (Eric), Atlanta, GA and Teresa Williams, Louisville, KY; siblings Hazel S. (Alfred) Radford, Clarksville, TN, James,Jr., Raymond and Ruth Stewart, all of Louisville; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
