Damian Darnell Cromartie began his earthly journey on November 5, 1973, son of Yolanda Yancey and Keith Cromartie. His grandparents: Murtis Buck Yancey Hatter, Bobby J, Hatter, Cherie Johnson, Charlene Cromartie and Clarence Yancey, Sr., preceded him in death.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Wesley Chapel CME Church.
Damian attended Clarksville Academy, Ringgold Elementary, Seaford Elementary (Delaware), Wuerzburg Elementary (Germany), New Providence Middle School and was a 1991 Northeast High School Honor Graduate . After high school, he attended Austin Peay State University, where he majored in Photojournalism.
On September 30, 1998, he joined the U.S. Army. He was a proud member of the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC with duty assignments in Iraq, Afghanistan and Yemen. During his military career he received: Iraq Campaign Medal with 3 campaign stars//Bronze Star Medal (3rd award)//Meritorious Service Medal//Joint Service Commendation Medal//Army Commendation Medal (5th award)//Army Achievement Medal (4th award)//USN Unit Commendation// Valorous Unit Award//Army Good Conduct Medal (6th award)//National Defense Service Medal//Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal//Global War on Terrorism Medal and Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/Campaign Star. On September 30, 2018, Damian retired after 20 years of dedicated service.
He was affectionately called “Uncle Turtle”. He enjoyed guns, both shooting and constructing, cameras, outdoors and every color of Chucks.
On Thursday, July 20, 2023, Damian’s earthly journey ended in Las Vegas, Nevada.
