Bertha Quarles

Bertha, daughter to Lee Quarles, Sr., and Mary Parham Quarles, was born on September 17, 1950 in Clarksville, Tennessee. She is preceded in death by her father and stepfather, Charles R. Stewart.

She accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age and was a lifetime member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church where she diligently served on the Usher Board and as a member of the Utility Ministry.

Bertha received her formal education in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System where she attended the Historic Burt High School and graduated with the Class of 1968. She worked as a cook at First Baptist Church in the food ministry where she served as Kitchen Supervisor for more than 25 years before retiring in 2013. She loved her co-workers and met many strangers, who later became her friends there.

Bertha had a special bond with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, looked forward to their shopping trips on the weekends and spending time with family. She enjoyed hopping in the car with her son, Steve, visiting friends or just going to Kroger, Dollar Market or Walmart. She also enjoyed reading and cooking.  She looked after her Mother and took her brothers under her wings. Bertha loved and lived her life! All who knew and loved her will sorely miss her presence and smiling face.
